CHICAGO - Police charged a man from the Clearing neighborhood with murder this afternoon and say he was the person who shot and killed another man at a party in the Logan Square neighborhood last month.

As we originally reported, the incident in question happened just after 1:00 a.m. on July 23rd, 2022, in the 3700 block of W. Fullerton Avenue at the Diamond Banquet Hall in the Logan Square neighborhood on the city's northwest side.[1]

At the time, police said a big group fight broke out at a party being held at a banquet hall and someone pulled out a handgun and shot another man at the party in the head. Witness said there was only 1 shot fired, and there was only 1 casing found by detectives.

The Chicago Fire Department took the victim to Illinois Masonic where he was initially listed in critical condition but died from his injury a short time later. The victim was later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as 34-year-old Carlos Villagomez.

Police have now charged Lionel Serrano, 19, of the 5500 block of W. 63rd Place in the Clearing neighborhood, with one (1) felony count of first degree murder.

Serrano was reportedly arrested yesterday in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood. He is due in bond court today.
