6-month-old baby girl shot in the head and killed
Update 2: The infant has been identified as Cecilia Thomas. She is among the youngest victims of gun violence in Chicago. She would have been six months old in 4 days.
Update: The shooter is believed to be a woman.
CHICAGO - A 6-month-old infant girl was shot and killed tonight while riding in the backseat of her father's car in the South Shore neighborhood, authorities said.
The incident reportedly occurred on the 7700 block of S. South Shore around 6:45 p.m. just outside Rainbow Beach Park along the lake.
Police said a female infant was riding in the backseat of a car when an unknown vehicle approached the victim’s vehicle and an occupant from within fired shots. The infant was struck to the head and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where she was initially reported in critical condition.
The little girl died not long after.
A second victim, a 41-year-old male, told police he was traveling in a separate vehicle and was able to drive himself to University of Chicago Hospital with a gunshot wound to the eye area. He was initially reported in good condition.
There are additional details that did come through the local scanner traffic but we're unable to confirm the information with Chicago Police while they investigate.

There are no offenders in custody, and area detectives are investigating.
