18-year-old Edgewater man charged with Austin double murder, attempted murder
CHICAGO - An 18-year-old man from the Edgewater neigbhorhood has been charged by Chicago Police with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder in relation to a shooting in the Austin neighborhood last month, authorities said.
Police charged Edwin Lagunas, 18, of the Edgewater neighborhood, in the shooting death of a 15-year-old girl and a 44-year-old man in November in the Austin neighborhood on the city's west side. A 38-year-old man was also seriously injured in the November 20 shooting.
Lagunas officially is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm. Police say he was the person who shot and killed Ruby Navarette, 15, of Cicero, IL, and Linner Hawkins, 44, of Gary, IN, while they were standing outside at a party on the 5800 block of W. Augusta Boulevard.
A 38-year-old man was also critically injured in the shooting.
According to CBS2Chicago, Police described a fight that took place near the front door in the moments before the shooting.[1] Afterward, someone fired from across the street.
Lagunas was scheduled to appear in court Monday.
