YMCA office scuffle

An employee at the YMCA facility located at 11 E. Adams told police on June 10 at 10:10 a.m. that a woman attacked her over a dispute regarding a chair in one of the classrooms. The YMCA program director and some office staff members tried to resolve the dispute, but the offender then turned over an office cubicle and started to destroy a nearby desk. The offender then grabbed a pair of scissors and lunged at YMCA employees. The YMCA called security and police, but the offender fled.
Tussle at the Taste
Police observed a group of men hitting each other with their legs and fists at the Taste of Chicago near 400 S. Columbus June 28 at 8:30 p.m. A large crowd gathered to watch the fight. Officers grabbed one of the combatants and tried to place him under arrest, but the man flailed all around and tried to escape. Police tried to handcuff him, but the offender escaped the officer. The officer then tripped the offender with his baton, and they were able to restrain him.
Drug bust at the Taste
Police on patrol at the Taste of Chicago near 500 S. Columbus responded to a call of a man with a gun June 28 at 2:55 p.m. The police saw a man who matched the description of the alleged offender carrying a black canvas bag. Police approached the man and asked to search his bag. The man obliged and officers found three plastic bags containing a green leafy substance suspected as cannabis inside the bag. The offender was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis.
Man strikes woman at Taste
Police were approached by a witness who said he saw a man hit a woman and knock her to the ground near 510 S. Columbus June 27 at 6:15 p.m. The witness told police that the man also hit the woman while she was on the ground. Police found the victim and offender and conducted field interviews with both. The victim had a laceration between her eyes. The victim told police, “It was my fault.” She kept telling them the altercation was her fault, but would not explain what happened. Police arrested the offender based on the evidence from witnesses.
Cleaning up the streets
Police received a call of a woman acting wildly near 150 S. Michigan June 26 at 11:10 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a woman with soap suds in her hair and on her face. She told police she wanted to go back to the park and finish bathing. The woman was known to have mental health issues, and was detained by police and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
Polite bank robber strikes
A man wearing a dark jacket and a white T-shirt entered a Citibank at 222 W. Adams June 19 at 4:39 p.m. He approached a teller and handed her a folded white sheet of paper. The teller opened the paper and saw, “I have a gun. I only want 50’s or 100’s. Do not sound the alarm,” written in black marker. The teller looked at the man and asked, “Are you serious?” The offender allegedly gestured toward his waist band and said, “Yes. Do it.” The teller handed over approximately 14 to 19 hundred dollar bills from her drawer. The offender folded the bills, put them in his pocket and said, “Thank you.” The offender then fled through an east facing door. Police dusted for prints and procured a surveillance video of the robbery.
A stolen kiss
A woman told police she was drinking with a male neighbor who she’s known for 10 months at 1801 S. Wabash on June 21 at 11 p.m. While hanging out, the neighbor allegedly tried to kiss her.
Brass knuckler busted
An officer on patrol at the Taste of Chicago near 201 S. Wabash heard a loud thump and then yelling June 27 at 5:15 p.m. He turned around and found a man and a taxi driver yelling at each other on the corner of Wabash and Jackson. Eventually the man started walking away from the cab driver with his hands inside his shorts pockets. The man was detained by police and was asked to remove his hands from his pockets. The officer observed the man drop something into his pocket as he removed his hands. Police searched the man and found a pair of metal “brass” knuckles in his pocket. The man was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a dangerous weapon.
