Park 542 to open Aug. 12, name undergoes review

The fences surrounding Park #542, a highly anticipated new park district facility in the West Loop, are scheduled to come down on Aug. 12, a spokeswoman confirmed today. The proposed named for the park is presently under review.

Target Corporation has purchased the old Fannie May candy site in the West Loop, in a sale recorded on July 1. The price: $9.3 million. That's less than half of what the previous owners paid for the land, property records show.

Rick Levin & Associates is scheduled to auction off the vacant parcel at 1000 S. Michigan on July 27 at 1 p.m. in Rosemont. One of the few empty lots on Michigan Avenue, the suggested opening bid price is $9 million.

Crain's is reporting that Lucien Lagrange's architecture firm will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as he retires after a long career in Chicago. While many Lagrange-designed buildings are located on the North Side, South Loop residents became familiar with Lagrange's style during the XO debate several years ago. Read More...
